Stochastic Analysis of Finite Population Bufferless Multiplexing in Optical Packet/Burst Switching Systems

چکیده
In this letter, we study the blocking probabilities in an asynchronous optical packet/burst switching system with full wavelength conversion. Most of the existing work use Poisson traffic models that is well-suited for an infinite population of users. In this letter, the optical packet traffic arriving at the switching system is modeled through a superposition of a finite number of identical on-off sources. We propose a block tridiagonal LU factorization algorithm to efficiently solve the two dimensional Markov chain that arises in the modeling of the switching system. key words: optical packet switching, optical burst switching, on-off traffic, Markov chains

Optical burst switching is a promising solution for all-optical WDM networks. It combines the benefits of optical packet switching and wavelength routing while taking into account the limitations of the current all-optical technology. In OBS, the user data is collected at the edge of the network, sorted based on a destination address, and grouped into variable sized bursts. Prior to transmittin...
متن کاملAnalysis of Wavelength-Routed Optical Burst-Switched Network Performance
This paper studies a novel scalable network architecture combining optical burst switching (OBS) with dynamic wavelength allocation to guarantee quality of service (QoS). All processing and buffering functions are concentrated at the network edge and bursts are assigned to fast tuneable lasers and routed over a bufferless optical transport core using dynamic wavelength assignment. Different bur...
متن کاملTechniques for Optical Packet Switching and Optical Burst Switching
Wavelength-division multiplexing appears to be the solution of choice for providing a faster networking infrastructure that can meet the explosive growth of the Internet. Several different technologies have been developed so far for the transfer of data over WDM. In this article we survey two new technologies which are still in the experimental stage — optical packet switching and optical burst...
متن کاملTime Sliced Optical Burst Switching
Time Sliced Optical Burst Switching is a proposed variant of optical burst switching, in which switching is done in the time domain, rather than the wavelength domain. This eliminates the need for wavelength converters, the largest single cost component of systems that switch in the wavelength domain. We examine some of the key design issues for routers that implement time sliced optical packet...
متن کاملBufferless Bidirectional Multi-Ring Networks with Sharing an Optical Burst Mode Transceiver for Any Route
Improvement of conventional networks with an incremental approach is an important design method for the development of the future internet. For this approach, we are developing a future aggregation network based on passive optical network (PON) technology to achieve both cost-effectiveness and high reliability. In this paper, we propose a timeslot (TS) synchronization method for sharing a TS fr...
